Twitter has been full of sad tweets about Gerry Anderson. Neil Gaiman, somewhat less somberly, wondered if he’d be allowed to sing the Fireball XL5 theme at Amanda’s next gig. For those of you who don’t know what he means, here it is.
I do so love that song.
Thank you for posting the news about Gerry Anderson, which didn’t seem to get much attention in the US (that I’ve seen). I not only loved the various shows with marionettes, I also loved UFO in all its camp. At the age I was then, it was downright scary and cool. Those shows filled me with wonder and had great pyrotechnics.
I have box sets of several of the Anderson Supermarionation series, including Fireball, which is my first definite TV memory.
Not only the series, but the music from those shows is a wonderful sense memory for me; I love to sneak the assorted themes into party and show mixes.
RIP, Gerry, and thanks for all the adventures.
(I also have a box set of the less successful Terrahawks which I found used, and have only managed to work through a couple episodes.)
