As many of you know, I can’t sing to save my life, or play any sort of instrument. Lyrics, on the other hand, are just a matter of writing…
On Saturday as we hastened to turn around from attending the SFSFC Board Meeting to heading into San Francisco for SF in SF Kevin, who had been watching Mama Mia on the flight back from Chicago, commented that there ought to be a SMOFish filk song called “Busy, busy, busy” to the tune of “Money, money, money.” This was too good a challenge to pass up, so on the train into San Francisco I wrote the following:
Busy, Busy, Busy
(To the tune of Abba’s “Money, money, moneyâ€)
I work all night, I work all day, to run the cons that you attend
Ain’t it sad
We can’t afford to pay for staff, on volunteers we do depend
That’s too bad
In my dreams I have time off
If I could stop being a SMOF
I wouldn’t have to work at all, I’d fool around and have a ball…
Busy, busy, busy
I’m so busy
Seems I’m always on
Busy, busy, busy
Always busy
Working for fandom
Aha-ahaaa
All the things I could do
But next year I must be working
On another con
I’m on a treadmill, I can’t stop, I’ll keep on working ‘till I drop
Oh poor you
There’s one solution I can see, a means by which I can be free
What’s to do?
So I must bid to run Worldcon
In Las Vegas, or in London
To chair the big one’s my desire, and when it’s done I can retire…
Busy, busy, busy
I’m so busy
Seems I’m always on
Busy, busy, busy
Always busy
Working for fandom
Aha-ahaaa
All the things I could do
But next month I must be working
On another con
Busy, busy, busy
I’m so busy
Seems I’m always on
Busy, busy, busy
Always busy
Working for fandom
Aha-ahaaa
All the things I could do
But next week I must be working
On another con
On another con
Ah Hem. As someone who has just become the treasurer of San Jose in 2011. And am still the treasurer of the Mythopoeic Society, this year’s Mythcon, Next Year’s Mythcon, and the year after that Mythcon (and they didn’t even bother to ask me, they just put me in the committeed list!). And still part of Kevin and Andy’s group.
I resemble that remark.
PS Or why I’m not asking for any positions at SFSFC and Silicon’s non profit. I Really Don’t have the time right now.
ROFLMAO! That’s great, Cheryl!
Great, Cheryl! my feelings exactly, or ours, the Finncon committee(s). If you come to the Helsinki Finncon next summer – which we sincerely hope and expect – you just might hear your filk performed…
Liisa:
I’d love to hear it performed. (Actually Kevin and I have done it, and he’s great, but I’m awful.) I think it needs the karaoke track because there’s so much sound involved in Abba songs. Hopefully the Swedes won’t be too annoyed with me.
And yes, I am planning to be in Helsinki next summer.
