Slightly Delayed Thanksgiving

Kevin is back home. Time for a slightly delayed Thanksgiving dinner. No turkey obviously – the boy has had enough to last for weeks. So crab-stuffed mushrooms and a nice piece of sirloin. Red wine for me, egg nog for him; mince pies for dessert. Yum. Thank you, Goddess.

Also some wise words from Jed Hartman:

my favorite things: Warm sunlight on skin; warm water on skin; warm skin on skin

Couldn’t agree more. I love California.

  1. Happy Thanksgiving Day in your adopted country!! That’s if you’ve recovered from your Happy First Christmas Shopping Day…

  2. Shopping? Hah! As and when the flood of work slows down, maybe. And at least then I’ll have some money to spend.

But I’m wondering what exactly is First Christmas Shopping Day these days. OK, when we went to buy the steak we saw a guy shopping in a Santa hat, which I thought was a bit premature. But in the UK First Christmas Shopping Day has been the Tuesday after August Bank Holiday for many years now. Although Americans have Thanksgiving to think about, food aside it doesn’t seem to be much of a shopping event. People spend more money at Halloween. So these days Halloween is known as The Nightmare Before Christmas, and First Christmas Shopping Day is November 1st (which, as I recall, I spent sightseeing in New York and shopping on 42nd Street, and got a totally fabulous jacket).
