Some Immigration Links

Those of you who have been asking what you can do to help me get back to the US, here’s a possible solution. A bill going through Congress will (if it passes) establish a new category of entrepreneur visa. So if anyone is willing to loan me $250,000 to start a business…

Yeah, right. But it is cheaper than the $1m I’d have to raise myself, so I had to ask.

On a more depressing note, here’s someone else from our community who got into trouble at a border.

And even more depressing, the UK government is being taken to court over what appears to be deliberate discrimination against LGBT asylum seekers.

  1. Observation from the outside looking in… at least HM Gov’t *can* be taken to court for discriminating against LGBT. Far cry from what we’ve got this side of the pond south of 49N… which is jack and squat.

    1. Agreed, although one of the main campaign points of the Tories in the recent election was to scrap the Human Rights Act and replace it with a new law that would basically protect the right of people to discriminate.

      1. Which was my point; you’ve got an HRA in the first place. It’s not set in concrete, like in Canada, but you’ve got one. And from what you said, the whole anti-HRA thing was a big part of *why* the Tories could not win?

        1. Well it is why I thought the Tories *should* not win. I’m also hoping that Clegg will make keeping the HRA a condition of any deal. But if the Labour partisans manage to scupper any deal then there will be another election and the Tories *will* win.

  2. Poor Adam! I know him, and this is outrageous. It’s outrageous for anyone.
