I’m having a Myers moment. As his regular readers will know, PZ is fond of sending his readers out to crash polls. His usual targets are polls about creationism and the like, but the poll I want you to go and vote in is all about a different sort of creation. Specifically it wants to know what type of convention you like attending. Because we don’t want Creation to win now, do we?
Oh, and for those of you who are hoping to vote in favor of conventions that don’t have any horrible science fiction in them, but instead concentrate on purely fannish matters: sorry, your choice didn’t make the ballot.
Done and done, taking time out to pour slight scorn upon the phrase “sci-fi”.
My favourite conventions are the smaller events, such as Novacon, Mexicon or MiScon. The fact that the latter two series are no longer extant may indicate my time has passed.
Must have something bad for lunch since I have this image of “CreationCon Presents ReaderCon!”
Now that would be … odd, to say the least.
Steve:
It is a side effect of us having won the culture war. There are a lot more fans these days. Small cons are hard to find. (But hey, try Bristol.)
Oh, I’m more than happy for all these fans to have cons of their own; I’d just like there to be more of the kind of cons I like.
That Bristol minicon sounds fun, rather like the old Portsmouth one-day events, but I suspect I (and my bank account) will still be recuperating at that point.
