There is currently no bid for Eastercon for 2013. In addition the US West Coast convention, Westercon, is struggling to attract members. I therefore propose that we hold the 2013 Eastercon and Westercon together, in Greenwich.

I’m assuming you mean Greenwich, England – not Connecticut.
Ooh, the Cutty Sark is reopening in 2012
Sadly the Westercon rules would seem to prohibit such:
Any site on the North American continent west of the 104th west meridian, or in the state of Hawaii, shall be eligible to be the site of a Westercon, except as restricted by the provisions of these bylaws.
“Provided that, upon the annexation of Australia by the United States of America or the annexation of the United States of America by Australia, Section 3.1 shall be amended to read:
“Any site in Australia, or on the North American continent west of the 104th west meridian, or in the state of Hawaii, shall be eligible to be the site of a Westercon, except as restricted by the provisions of these bylaws.â€

There was the year when the 4th of July was on a Wednesday with two bids: one for the weekend before, one for the weekend after.
Not surprisingly, a 3rd bid appeared: “Vote For Both!”.
So you two will be co-chairing? I’ll give (t)K my $20 when I see him next.
Hum ..well alright .. Greenwich, England does conform to my Cold Equations formula of .. will that cost me more pain and wear and tear to my diseased spine than its worth as against … will that cost me more money than its worth? In as much as I do like …

and an airport hotel most certainly doesn’t meet the balance of ‘Like ‘ – who would want to spend an Easter weekend in an airport hotel if they could possibly avoid it? I can understand an airport hotel as being convenient if you live down the road as it were but traveling the length of the U.K. to spend Easter Weekend in an airport hotel at your own expense?
Much the same argument could be said to follow a con held in the N.E.C. which is decidedly not Fun …. unless you have the joy of contemplating the size of your expense account after serving at a professional event.
And SO .. Greenwich, England sounds interesting Cheryl …. Go On?
Incidentally ..Blackpool wasn’t THAT Bad you know! Not GOOD certainly but not really all that BAD as such things go.
There is no bid for the 2013 Australian natcon either.
The potential ramifications are beginning to be ……………. interesting?
I’m game. I could get to Greenwich, which I used to like when I still lived in England. Nice riverside pubs………. nice things to look at ………, yes, the Cutty Sark.
So, what we need is a combined bid, across three time zones (Z+0, Z+8, Z-8) , joined by HD video links between the fan bars and the main programme.
With 16 hours of programming per venue (1000-0200), we could link two out of the three sites at all times.
