A New Playground

As per my comment on the Octocon affair earlier today, things seem to be moving forward in Dublin and I recommend that we leave them to talk in peace. However, those of you who haven’t quite eaten all of your popcorn might like to pop over to the Not the Booker thread where Rana Dasgupta appears to be throwing a significant hissy fit despite having been declared the winner.

  1. I don’t think it’s fair to call that a hissy fit. The comments about democracy are completely true – either the people are deciding, or they aren’t. Democracy will never be possible if people aren’t allowed, collectively, to make their own mistakes.

  2. Paul:

Whether he’s justified in his complaints or not, I thought it was a remarkably ungracious post from someone who has just won a poll.

Also, my understanding of the history of this is that there were questions of ballot fraud being raised. I don’t have a lot of respect for someone who yells loudly about lack of democracy because he’s apparently been caught trying to fix the ballot. Of course if the allegations are untrue that’s another matter. All I can do is judge by the behavior of those involved.
