I have just booked flights to go to Octocon. The costs look roughly like this:
- Fares: £7.50;
- Additional charges from RyanAir to be allowed to do things like pay, check in and take a bag: £40.00
- Taxes: £61.00
What a strange world we live in.

Those “taxes” on Ryanair include the normal airport fees that would usually be considered part of the fare, too. I do the EDI-DUB route quite a bit, and fairly quickly learned that, once you take all the extras into account, Aer Lingus are usually cheaper. Much less stressful, too.
Looking forward to seeing you in October.
Oh – and to agree with Feòrag I also find Aer Lingus cheaper and friendlier to fly with – not perfect but indeed less stressful.
Kate:
Looking forward to seeing you too.

Sadly I have to take what I can get at Bristol. There’s not much choice.
If America had an airline like Ryan Air, I wouldn’t fly. Southwest at least has the sense not to charge for two bags or to check in. I wish more American airlines had the sense not to charge for two bags, but that is another thought entirely.
