The official final issue of Emerald City is now online, although as I’ve been pointing out I will need a special undead issue to fulfill a few final obligations.

I’m glad to see your coming out in support of the “voting only” membership idea, Cheryl. At worst, it’ll fail horribly — no one will buy them — and that’ll be the end of that. At best, as you say, it’ll open the doors to substantial amounts of new voters.
Regarding JMS, he announced just a couple of days prior to the convention that he was going to be cancelling all convention appearances at least until next year. Selling a script to Ron Howard has opened a lot of doors for him and given him a heap of new work. Glad for him, but Linda and I were very much looking forward to attending the panels he had been scheduled for.
Voting-only memberships, along with exhibits-only entry, are amongst the radical ideas that Kevin and I tend to bat back and fore when we are out exercising in the local park. They are on the list of “things we would do if we had enough money to spend 4 or 5 years doing nothing but bid for and run a Worldcon.”
Thanks for letting me know what happened to JMS. I’d been looking forward to seeing him too.
Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for Finncon report, it was wonderful to have you along. Leena’s talk is now available at her own website at
The rest of the site is also good if you are interested in her writing, and a lot of the stuff there is even in English. Jukka wawes a hello from the sofa, one of these days he might recover enough to actually post something himself 🙂
