There is an interesting history of anime conventions in Finland online here. It is rather scary to see how quickly things have grown, but very heartwarming as well. Too many people is a nice sort of problem to have.

Well, they could have mentioned that Animecon is no longer simply because Finnish sf people really cannot do it anymore – not only because there is not such a space in Finland where the two events could fit. It has been enormous economical and organizatory burden for small sf societies to handle the events in the last years.
But I am thrilled of the way anime events are flourishing around the country. It is sad that there is no yet national anime organization and co-operarion that would be able to create Animecon to Jyvaskyla in 2010. I would ever thought I would say this: I probably shall miss those costumes and young genderish misbehaving 🙂
