Shopping

Central Denver is lovely. Despite the wide roads and grid layout, it is a proper town center with lots of good restaurants and shops, and excellent pubic transit (there’s a free bus going up and down the 16th Street mall). Tattered Cover, who sponsored the goodie bags for the con, turned out to have a beautiful bookstore – photos to follow. I did also try to photograph Coors Field, but my camera, being a loyal Giants fan, promptly ran out of batteries.

Anyway, there was a further reductions sale in Anne Taylor Loft, and the local store, Cira, whose window I had been salivating over all week, turned out to have things that fitted me. I am poorer, but very happy. Gotta rush now. The airport beckons.

Baseball Tickets for Sale

Kevin and I signed up for a share of a Giants season ticket scheme run by people at his office, but for some reason we don’t quite understand only one of the 6 days we got turned out to be a day when we could attend the game. We’ve got rid of two pairs, but there’s another three pairs available. Kevin has details on his LJ.

Gloom and Despondency

Today is opening day in the baseball season. Normally at this time of year all of the baseball pundits are predicting that the Giants will finish bottom of their division, and Giants fans are quietly assuming that these predictions will be wrong again. This year, however, it is Giants fans who are predicting a disastrous season. Of course with 40% of the roster being new, and many of them almost unknown, anything could happen, but I have a bad feeling about this. On the basis of spring training performances I’ll be happy if we win 50 games.

Update: Here’s a pundit who thinks we might win all of 75 games! That’s a 50% improvement on my gloomy prediction.

Boston (again)

So, here I am in Boston. During my layover in Denver I got to see the first half of the Patriots comprehensive destruction of the Redskins, and on my arrival here I got to see the the Red Sox clinch the World Series. There are a lot of happy people here in Boston.

Me included, because my hotel is thus far proving very comfortable. This is important, oh Smoffish ones, because this is the hotel in which SMOFcon will be held later this year. No time to look around tonight, but I promise more info tomorrow. Let me know if there’s anything in particular that you want me to check out.

Baseball Playoffs

The next best thing to watching the Dodgers lose is watching the Yankees lose. Go Tigers!

Here’s hoping for a good performance from the Mets tonight.

Update: OK, Good job by the Mets. Let’s hear it one more time for this season, shall we?
