And Ursula Le Guin aims some major league snark at Margaret Atwood. The paragraph about character is priceless.

Well-deserved snark it is, too, though all in all it seems quite the balanced assessment of Ms. Atwood’s novel, and her satirical bent (which, she seems to believe, lets her off the hook of writing sf–leading us all back to that problematic mainstay of the jaundiced academic view of “All science fiction is bad. This book is good. Therefore this book cannot possbily be science fiction.”, which we’ve all come to embrace of course down through the ages).
Anyway, thanks for pointing to this link. I very much appreciated the review.

An interesting piece by LeGuin, certainly worth reading, but I disagree with her assessment of the characters in Oryx and Crake, particularly Jimmy/Snowman.
