Me At SFWA

So last week the nice people who run the SFWA website contacted me and asked if they could publish one of my blog posts about the women SF writers controversy. I told them I’d much rather write something new, taking into account some of the other material I’ve seen recently, and over the weekend I did so. The results can be found here.

I am looking forward to lots of comments telling me what an evil, man-hating monster I am, and lots more telling me that I have no right to speak for women.

And before anyone gets really angry, no, I did not get paid for that.

    1. It won’t be too long before someone decides that I’m traitorously denigrating the UK SF community on an American website.

  1. I think it was a very apt and appropriate piece. So far the only negative response seems to have come from the mathematically challenged ‘e’.

Perhaps he should consider changing his moniker – to ‘eeek’ or ‘euch!’

This current situation reminds me of back in the 60’s when I was first starting to rattle cages, any woman who didn’t smile pretty and do as she was told was called a bitch and / or a ball-breaker. If that didn’t work she got laughed at – or was it the other way around? Both happened so often I’ve forgotten the order.

Time passes; things change and we’re still fighting the same war – but on different battle-grounds. And there’s many many more of us and we’re a lot harder to silence. Now isn’t that interesting?

    All praise lippy women!

    1. I did think that it was rather sad that only the second comment was from an anonymous male-identified person who was dishonestly trying to suggest that I couldn’t do basic math. I was tempted to ask him if he thought the inability to do math was in my chromosomes.

But, as you say, the bulk of the response has been positive. Apparently SFWA will be posting it to their Facebook page soon, where they say they get a lot more comments.

      1. Read later comments from “E”–not a troll after all.

        Anyway, good article, Cheryl. 🙂

  2. ? I didn’t see anything in that (very fine) piece which might even possibly warrant calling you an “evil, man-hating monster”.

  3. I loved your piece – spot on, as always. Missed you in the MIND MELD – it would have been good have you on board. 🙂

    Have fun in Stockholm!!
