  1. “The Telegraph no less” reminds me of being in the UK for a couple weeks after Eastercon; Lin, who doesn’t pay quite as much attention to UK newspaper politics as I do, kept trying to pick up The Times because she liked it 25 years ago, even though I kept saying “no no it’s Murdoch now!” She managed to get a copy in the United lounge on the way home, and said “hey, this paper really *does* suck now.” I didn’t have to warn her off the Torygraph this trip. Is the Independent worth reading anymore? I stuck to the Guardian the entire time, of course. (Well, I did read The Scotsman in a pub in Edinburgh.)

  2. I generally read The Independent in preference to The Guardian (though I have both in my feed reader). The Guardian is prone to bouts of left wing nonsense that can be every bit as divorced from reality as the Torygraph’s right wing nonsense. More than most UK papers it tends to assume that all Americans are rabid Bush supporters. Also it is, rather bizarrely, the most transphobic newspaper in the UK.
