Saying Goodbye to NOLA

Kevin and I are in New Orleans airport where there is free public wi-fi. We are, as usual, here ridiculously early, because you never know when there might be a huge backup at check-in or terrorization, so we have some time before we have to board. There follows a few reflections on my first visit to New Orleans.

1. To heck with SMOFcon – there’s an energy economics conference in New Orleans in the first week in December. I’m going.

2. World Fantasy needs to be held in New Orleans on a fairly regular basis.

3. I have developed a liking for mint julip, Arbita’s Purple Haze, Oysters Bienville, and beignets.

4. My legs have got old.

5. The Saints need to stay in New Orleans. Some sports teams can move without it being much of a problem, but the Saints belong in New Orleans the way that the Magpies belong in Newcastle, or the Crusaders belong in Christchurch.
