Status Report

Well, the good news is that as of this end of this week I think the nightmare project will be at an end. The bad news is that after that I am going to be very short of paying work. (Nor do I expect to get paid for this job, but that’s the way life goes.) So if anyone happens to know of any writing gigs, or web site gigs, that might need help, I would be very grateful to hear from you.

As to future plans, I’m still intending to go to Finncon and Worldcon because I have paid for the travel and I can put aside money now for the hotels. All other convention attendance (and indeed anything else that costs money) is now canceled for the foreseeable future.

  1. See if Elance will help — looks to be an interesting site — as does Biznik…

And for those of us keeping an eye out — what kind of writing do you do (specifically — i can make some educated guesses…)

also: check out http://www.blizzard.com/us/jobopp/cd-writer.html — looks like stuff you’d do well at — see if they’ll take a telecommute ;> (they’re in Seattle).

  2. Looks like a great job, but I can’t do anything that is full time. It would require a visa and no one is going to apply for one for, no matter how well I fit what they are looking for.

  3. My take on this sort of opportunity is that you apply anyway. It may not work out, but there are a stack of new people who’ve had a look at your CV – and that is always a good thing.

    Good luck.

  4. Interesting idea, Glenda, but having seen recruitment from the inside I am well aware that HR has a slush pile, just like a publisher does. A significant proportion of the applications that come in don’t get read beyond seeing the trigger to qualify for the slush pile. And that screening takes place long before your resume gets to the people you’d actually be working with.
