While I was in Bristol I spotted a totally bizarre building that is now a branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland (actually an office for their financial services people, I think). I promised some folks on Twitter that I would find out more about it, and I have done so. It is the Edward Everard Building, and you can read more about it (and see more pictures) at this web site.

I’ve seen pictures of this building before. I’m sure it was some book on William Morris influences. I adore terracotta and tile work on large scale. I’d like to see it back in fashion.
I’m impressed. Bristol is brave enough to experiment with architecture the way it does. I love the Granary building. But then I’ve always had a weak spot for Italian brick.
