The Highs and Lows of Internet Marketing

A while back I noted that I get a fair amount of traffic from people searching for the phrase “tentacle porn”. I’m rather amused at how disappointed most such people will be when they find postings about squid. But not all such data is amusing. My top search engine phrase over the past month: “robert asprin”. Sometimes being a news site is not much fun.

Ah well, I did get a bunch of referrals from the phrase “lesbian albatross”.

  1. Those results are probably from people who are looking for hentai/manga, a form of Japanese porn. The tentacle rape scene is frequently a staple in them, or so my geeky anime friends tell me. Unfortunately, it gives the poor octopuses of the seas a bad name.

If you ask me, it’s just plain weird.

  2. That is why I’m amused that they come here. I am, of course, deeply suspicious of any form of art in which a rape scene is a staple element, but I don’t know enough about hentai to know whether that’s true or just a charge that is frequently leveled against it by “moral” crusaders.
